Have to wonder whether Ford planned this all along as a way to keep attention on the Bronco.

I would have laughed if this was a second year upgrade.

A win for all 15 people who will buy that combo. Still, it makes sense for their fancy offroad 7 speed to be able to be bought with the other offroad hardware.

You know.. i was literally just thinking this. If i wanted to maximize lack of depreciation on one of thse (although the whole segment is strong on that front) id buy one of these manual’s.
Good call.

The 2.7 is a great engine under a warranty. I wonder if my plow will bolt up to the Bronco. It has been along time since my plow vehicle had a manual.

Yeah I just thought that too, create a little controversy and then say, oh we will do it for you our loyal customers! I wouldn’t mind one of these in some configuration, I’d have to really think about it.

I doubt they have their crap together well enough to have planned it. If it was planned, it probably would have been a second year change. Planned obsolescence yo!

Nice!
In semi-related news, in response to my wanting to buy some shit-
box (I don’t even remember what I said I wanted), my wife said, “You need to save your money for buying Dan’s Suburban.”
She’s not wrong!

Haha, it won’t be anytime soon but it will likely be. We might get the beta from my father...he has been ALL over the place with cars the past few years and was like “maybe, I’ll get one of those”. He needs to chill.

My dad has kept each truck he buys, for a shorter and shorter amount of time. Last one was only three years. He just traded it in on a new Tahoe.
Meanwhile, I’ve been driving the same truck for 14-1/2 years now.
My buddy has a super clean GMT-800 Suburban, that I’ve been bugging him for years to sell me. He actually gave me a shot at it this summer, but I had to spend the money on the house. He ended up keeping it, and has promised to give me another crack at it next time he sells it.

My dad has had a scare or two, so I think part of is a little bit of “fuck it”. In the last 5 years or so he has gone:
335 GT - just the flipping WORST, he bought it because they sold the black 335 sedan he went to buy...but they had...THAT...so he bought it even though I was like “dad, no it’s so whack...and it’s white” I laid off after that but he didn’t have it long
brand new 2017 F150 - liked it but sold it because the door latches froze during cold nights. He had it serviced twice for it. the third time he and my mom hand to drive home from dinner HOLDING the doors shut!
Now he’s got an SQ5 which he likes but is already talking about something else. I’m trying to sell him on another E70 X5. He had the TTV8 with the “recall” complete top end rebuild. A fter that he pitched it worried about owning it long term. The second and third iterations of that engine are less prone to self destruction, but the guy only drives 2k miles per year and he loved the one he had.
Cool that your buddy is holding it for you! I did the same thing with my ranger for my FIL, and he LOVES that truck.

That I think is a factor for my dad as well. 59 years of smoking finally came home to roost, as he was diagnosed with emphysema (he’s still relatively healthy, all things considered). He decided he’s too old and out of shape for construction, so there was no need to have a pickup truck anymore. His other business is selling/installing/servicing Generac standby generators. That’s been a great semi-retired business for him. He can haul what he needs in the Tahoe, service a generator or two a day, and then go home and take a nap.

Oh baby I bet the generator business is booming since COVID. We’re scouting an addition on our home and the contractor said, if you want a generator let me know as they’re tough to get right now.

He’s doing pretty well. He enjoys the service and warranty repairs more than new installs. He’s one of the only guys in his area who does warranty repairs. Most guys don’t want to touch them, but my dad really enjoys trouble shooting them.
